Super Duplex Pipe is made up of super duplex grade stainless steel material. The duplex is a dual feature material containing the ferritic and austenitic phases of stainless steel. The composition and formation of the material makes it stronger and corrosion resistant to most environments. Naman Pipe & Tubes is a large manufacturer and supplier of duplex pipes. The seamless pipes are usually cold drawn and have higher dimensional accuracy whereas the welded pipes are produced through hot rolling and are stronger but have higher absolute roughness. They are used in different applications with different requirements. Applications which require precision measurements can use the seamless pipes whereas the applications which require less precision but high strength could use the welded pies. They could both withstand high temperatures. The ASTM A790 Super Duplex Pipe comes with a standard that specifies seamless and welded pipes that are used for high temperature services and with high corrosion resistance. How to weld super duplex pipe with 316 stainless steel?

The super duplex and the 316 are different types of stainless steel materials. The 316 is an austenitic stainless steel which allows welding with filler materials. The super duplex grades are also welded with filler materials. Usually, the filler materials have lessor carbon content than the original welded material. For the 316, the 316L is used as filler material. For super duplex 2205, the 2209 is used as filler material. When combining the super duplex and 316 pipes together, the filler material grades differ. The welding consumable and the filler material would be E309LMo and E2209 for this unusual application.
